CDP (formerly known as the Carbon Disclosure Project) is a U.K.-based NGO that has advocated for increased environmental and climate-related disclosure by corporations and governmental bodies since its founding in 2000. As a result of its ongoing engagement with stakeholder groups and disclosing entities, CDP is the global leader in the reporting and collection of climate change, water, and forest-risk data. By working with over 820 institutional investors managing in excess of $95 trillion in assets, CDP's engagement and disclosure programs have led to regular disclosure of this type of data by more than 5,500 companies worldwide, representing over 50% of the market capitalization of the world's 30 largest stock exchanges. The CDP cities program, introduced in 2010, now includes over 300 cities reporting worldwide, representing a population of more than 660 million; CDP has a goal of increasing this disclosure to at least 500 cities by the end of 2016.
SNW Asset Management is partnering with CDP throughout 2016 to encourage cities to participate in the CDP cities program. As a participant in the CDP Cities 2016 Kick-off Webinar on February 24 (https://vimeo.com/156726756), SNW lent its voice to the call for more disclosure on environmental and climate-related issues by municipal governments. We will again participate in the dialogue between CDP and U.S. cities on March 17th in a follow-up webinar. As part of our impact engagement process with municipal governments in 2016, we will be providing information related to the CDP cities program, highlighting how environmental data is used in our impact analysis, and encouraging city, county and state governments to participate in the CDP disclosure programs.
